Flight Trials
The J2 Universal Tool-Kit enables the whole flight test programme to be flown, prior to any actual flights.
The results of predicted flights can be displayed in a 3-D virtual environment, so test pilots know what to expect before getting in the cockpit. Similarly, recorded data from the flight trials can then be fed back into the system for further analysis by the flight test engineers and played back in 3-D, to ensure a total understanding of the aircraft’s behaviour.
The recorded data can be used as inputs into the simulation to enable flight matching to take place, and therefore modifications to the aircraft model to increase accuracy.
Example
In the first example shown here, the FAR regulations to assess bank to bank during Take-Off (One Engine Inoperative) has been modelled, looking at three possible initial flight path angles. All three results are then displayed using J2 VIRTUAL. The first image shows a single aircraft, whilst the second enables all 3 possibilities to be viewed simultaneously. Using J2 VIRTUAL it is possible to navigate around the environment, including viewing out the window scenes. The playback can be speeded up, slowed down or jumped to specific points of interest.
The final image shows how using J2 VISUALIZE can be used to display graphically the comparison between predicted and actual responses to a pitch manoeuvre, with the corresponding real-time Simulation display.
